Lot 51

1804 C-2 R6+. Fine-12. Low 4. A few points sharper, especially where fully struck up, but there are light contact marks scattered over both sides. A thin vertical nick under the eye and a dull horizontal scratch close over CE in CENT, plus a collection of hairline scratches at TED-STA are the notable ones. All the contact marks blend perfectly into the attractive glossy chocolate brown toning. E-MDS, Manley state 2.0 early. The die crack through the top of RTY is clear but does not extend to the right top of the E. Softly struck on the left edge of the reverse, as usual, while the details on the right side approach VF20. Second finest known by a very small margin and apparently the finest ever offered at auction. Better than the examples auctioned from the collections of Jack Robinson, J. R. Frankenfield, Dr. Wallace Lee, Mike Spurlock, Roger Cohen, or Jules Reiver, and a variety missing from the Bill Weber and Steven Ellsworth sales. A highlight of this outstanding collection.
Estimated Value $35,000 - 45,000.
Ex Peter Setian 6/07.

Realized $66,125
