Lot 368

1800 NC-6 R6+ Overdate 1800 over 798. About Good-3. Style I Hair. Sharpness VG8, perhaps better on the reverse, but both sides are covered with uniform moderate corrosion. No marks or verdigris. The date and legends are complete and easily readable in spite of the roughness. While this is a difficult variety to differentiate from the more common S-190 & S-191 that share this obverse die, there are subtle differences on the reverse that remain visible even on low grade examples. One of the unpublished markers is the angle of the ends of the wreath stems, which is decidedly different on the NC-6, and the berry/stem combo just left of the ribbon bow. Dark chocolate brown with light brown highpoints.
Estimated Value $800 - 1,000.
Ex George W. Shope.
