Lot 283

1826 C-2 R3+. AU-50. Mint state sharpness but lightly cleaned and retoned glossy medium reddish brown and chocolate. There are a few tiny ticks on the cheek and a splash of slightly darker olive brown toning at the base of the T in LIBERTY, plus extremely faint hairlines on both sides from the earlier cleaning. Sharply struck E-MDS, Manley state 2.0. The is the Cohen plate coin for the variety in the second edition of his half cent book, and it comes with an impressive provenance, both testimony to the excellent eye appeal of this piece in spite of the old cleaning.
