Italian States - Trent. Grosso, Nd. Biaggi-2691. 1.63 grams. Bishops of Trento, 1207-1273. Under Frederic Barbarosa. Bust left, in profile, within beaded circle; crooked staff on left shoulder and right hand in benediction. Leg: +. EPS. TRIDENTI. Reverse Cross and F in field. Leg: +. IMPERATOR*. Rare. Very Fine.

In 1027, Conrad II, the Salic, to Bishop Ulrich of Trento sovereignty over that toon and territory. In 1182, Frederick Barbarosa granted minting privileges to Bishop Salomon and his successors. Mintage began a short time after. At the beginning of the 13th century, bishop Frederick de Wangen (1207-1218) undertook the minting of grossi carrying his profile bust left. This image was retained until the Episcopy of d'Egnone Piano (1248-1273).
