1920 SC1$ Wilson Dollar. NGC graded AU-58 Red & Brown. HK-450. Struck in bronze. Wilson Dollar. Part of an issue of medals to commemorate the opening of United States Mint in Manila, Philippine Islands, July 16, 1920, the only overseas mint ever established by our country.

As conciliatory act to the invasion and takeover of the Philippines in 1898, the U. S. in 1903 began to strike a special series of Philippine Islands coins to replace Spanish colonial issues then in use. The Bureau of Mint, U. S. Treasury Department, proceeded with plans for Islands to have its own mint, which went into operation in 1920. On the obverse: Pres. Woodrow Wilson, bust facing to left; above, President of the · United · States; beaded border. On the reverse: Justice, kneeling left, scales in upraised right hand, rests left hand upon shoulder of nude youth who is pouring planchets from cornucopia into coin press; above To Commemorate the opening of the Mint; below Manila P.I. / 1920 (incuse in oval); microscopic M (for George T. Morgan) to right behind left foot of Justice. Pop 3; 4 finer, 3 in 62, 1 in 63.
