Lot 3940

1870-CC Liberty Seated Quarter Dollar. SEGS graded VF-20. Our grade is Fine 15. A scarce date. The strong details include all seven letters in LIBERTY on the shield, complete and full, plus excellent rims and a strong central strike. There is detail aplenty remaining from its sojourn in circulation. The 1870-CC is the key Carson City mint quarter dollar, the first year of issue. It also happens to command attention for an extremely small mintage. Only 8,340 were made. Almost all reached the channels of commerce. Almost all survivors are extensively worn. And collectors since time immemorial have eagerly sought for a pleasing example like this (PCGS # 5477) .
Estimated Value $12,000 - 15,000.
