Great Britain. Kings of All England. AR Penny, ND (Sudbury, struck c. 1017-1023). North-781; S-1157. 0.81 grams. Cnut (the Great), 1016-1035 AD. Quatrefoil type. Moneyer, Spirling. Crowned and draped bust left, within quatrefoil (nearly a circle, but still with pellet at each apex), pellet behind king's bust; + CNVT REX ANGLOR around. Reverse: Long voided cross over quatrefoil, pellet at apex of each cusp, arms terminate in trefoils; +SPR LINC ONS VBR· spaced around arms. Good strike, on choice flan and metal. Fine, colorful, deep blue and gray toning, a dark pink or russet in the recesses. Lustrous. NGC graded AU-55. Estimated Value $500 - 600. Ex Dr Jacob Y.
