Great Britain. Kings of All England. AR Penny, ND (Southwark, struck c. 985-991). North-770; S-1148. 1.35 grams. Æthelred II, 978-1016 AD. Crux type. Moneyer, Byrhtlaf. Central circle, diademed and draped bust left within, scepter before; + ÆÐELRED REX ANGLORX around. Reverse: Central circle, voided cross with pellet center, C R V X in angles; + BYRHTLAF M-O SVÐ around. Bold, crisp strike, on choice flan and metal. Glossy black patina, with touches of blue. Scarce in this grade. NGC graded MS-62.
