Great Britain. Kings of Wessex. AR Penny, ND. North-622; S-1055. 1.27 grams. Aethelred, 865/6-871 AD. Lunette type. Schematic diademed draped bust right; +AEÐELRE+- REX around. Reverse: Inscription in three lines: MON / ETA in upper and lower lunette registers, with flanking pellets; in central: +VV·INE. Finely centered, sharp strike. Metal lightly granular, with dark brownish gray to black hoard patina. Rare. NGC graded VF-35.
