Rome. Antoninus Pius, 138-161 AD. AE Sestertius, Rome mint, struck 140 AD. Rare. Laureate head right; ANTONINVS AVG PI - VS P P TR P COS III. Reverse: Tiber, crowned with reeds, reclining left, leaning on urn, which pours out water, resting right hand on boat and holding reed; TIBERIS, SC in exergue. RIC 642a; BMCRE 1313; C. 819; Sear II 4237. Finely centered, bold strike, on very round flan, with only light weakness to face of the river god. Very attractive greenish patina, plus a truly impressive portrait of Pius! Extremely Fine.
