Lot 2904

1803 Draped Bust Dollar. Small 3. . B-4, BB- 254. NGC graded AU-53. Untoned. Softly struck in areas. Smooth and covered in satiny luster, far more luster than average for dollars of this designation. There is a short mark on the neck, but the fields and devices are exceptional for their abrasion-free appearance. BB-254 is noted for its thin top to the 3, the top side of which is long and ends near bust, very close. The 1 firmly makes contact with the curl. Also, the last star almost touches bust. Stars 7 and 8 distant from L and Y. (The obverse die used to strike 1803 BB-254 only.) Reverse B, as it is known, is the same die used to coin 1801 BB-212, repeated under 1803 BB-253 and several others. It outlasted several obverses. Pop 1; 4 finer; 1 in 55; 1 in 58; 1 in 61; 1 in 64. (PCGS # 6900) .
Estimated Value $7,000 - 7,500.

Realized $7,188
