Lot 2512

1907 $10 Indian. Wire rim, periods. NGC graded MS-66. Nice light golden toning on both sides. A lovely coin. Only 500 minted. A rare and popular transitional issue, one whose low mintage was made without intentions of circulation. Technically the Wire Rim ten is a pattern (hence, the Judd-1774 reference). This issue was the closest the mint came to producing the ten-dollar design as originally conceived by Augustus Saint-Gaudens and Theodore Roosevelt. The presently offered coin has subtleness in its lovely variegated color, patina and surface texture, and what's more, none of the often-seen small marks in the surface. No, no mischief ever occurred here! The fields as well as the devices are smooth, delightful, attractive. The finely raised die polishing lines (common to all specimens) are more pronounced on the reverse fields and overall the coin has a bright showy gleam. Pop 16; 10 finer, 2 in 66 star, 5 in 67, 2 in 68, 1 in 69 (PCGS # 8850) .
Estimated Value $65,000 - 70,000.
