Lot 2002

1880 Liberty Seated Dime. PCGS graded MS-65. Well struck and mostly white. Only 36,000 minted for circulation. The meager mintage can be partly explained on the glut of Morgan dollars that the Philadelphia Mint was forced to produce by the dictates of the Sherman Act of 1878; also, at this time, vast numbers of pre-1873 silver coinage came flooding into the country where they had been in hiding during the Greenback era of 1862-72. This specimen is boldly made and of impeccable quality, with silver-brightness that gives both sides a pleasing quality; the luster emits a full frosty sheen. Pop 26; 27 finer; 15 in 66; 12 in 67. (PCGS # 4688) .
Estimated Value $850 - 900.

Realized $978
