Lot 1970

1971 Jefferson Nickel. No S. PCGS graded Proof 68 Cameo. A gem white coin. Breen gives a mintage of 1,655 pieces. The mintmark was omitted from one die by error. The first example was discovered in a Proof set in December 1971; the Mint Bureau confirmed it and provided the mintage figure, after which the rush was on to find one! Pop 44; 7 finer in 69 (PCGS # 84204) .
