Reagan, Ronald. ALS ("Ron") on personal stationery, 1p, 11" x 8½", Pacific Palisades (CA), n.d. (transmittal envelope is postmarked 8 Nov. 1977). To Selena Walters Lamm, who had asked the former Governor to speak to a Democratic club to which she belonged. His reply, in part: "It was good to hear from you and to learn how you feel about the 'cause'…as an ex-Dem. myself I find myself wanting to ask - are you sure you are in the right club? I'm fooling - this is one issue that really should know no party lines. I'm really rather sorry that party organizations - Nat. committees & such passed resolutions on it. On the invitation - are you sure your fellow members feel as you do? It is an intriguing challenge…." Interestingly enough, Mrs. Lamm's fellow Democratics refused to have the Republican ex Governor speak to them! As a young actress, Selena Walters had an encounter in early 1952 with Reagan, who was then president of the Screen Actors Guild; the incident gained notoriety when it made its way into Kitty Kelley's 1991 book Nancy Reagan.
Estimated Value $1,000 - 1,500.
Personal property of Selene Walters Lamm.
