Carian Islands. Rhodes, c. 404-375 BC. AR Tetradrachm (17.10 g). Very Rare and exceptional! Head of Helios, with luxuriant wavey hair, facing slightly to right. Reverse: Rose with bud to left; ethnic above; Φ at left and phiale at right; all within incuse square. Bérend --; SNG Helsinki --; SNG Cop. --; BMC Caria --; SNG von Aulock --; cf. CNG Sale 67, lot 754, head of different style and phiale at left. Some slight scattered porosity, and narrow die break visible in hair. Otherwise, a magnificent sculptural portrait in high relief. With original dark "find patina." Choice Extremely Fine.
