Macedonian Kingdom. Alexander III, the Great, AR Tetradrachm (17.18 g), "Amphipolis" mint, c. 315-294 BC. Struck under Kassander, Philip IV, or Alexander (son of Kassander). Head of Herakles right, wearing lion's skin headdress. Reverse: Zeus enthroned left, holding eagle; at left, torch, Λ above; tripod beneath throne. Price 461. Finely struck and nicely centered. Noteworthy for the impressive portrait, monumental in feeling, not often seen from this mint. Handsome light-medium toning, with plenty of residual luster. Choice Very Fine.
