Lot 3462

1896-S $20 Liberty. PCGS graded MS-63. Lovely golden toning on both sides. Uncommonly smooth with fully metallic, golden-rose sheen and only scattered reminders of its origin (no doubt) in a mint bag. (Original bags of 250 double eagles, primarily dates in the 1900s, turn up on rare occasions nowadays, and it is exactly the lovely luster-bloom, color, and glow surface quality seen on this far-scarcer 1896-S twenty that characterizes uncleaned, original specimens.) Pop 818; 138 in 64, 1 in 65, 1 in 67 (PCGS # 9030) .
Estimated Value $1,500 - 1,600.

Realized $1,438
