1879 $1 Gold Indian. NGC graded Proof 64 Ultra Cameo. A flashy glittering Proof with splendid contrast. Only 30 Proofs minted for this low mintage date. As we said, this is a beauty, with nice snappy gold color on undisturbed surfaces free of discoloration. Where an ineffectual imprint is often left by the rebound of the dies that struck this Type's business strike coinage, the opposite is in fact the case here: devices show crystal clarity and abnormal detail in the centers, all thanks to the Proof dies and the Mint striking the coins twice by the dies.
