Lot 2634

1834 Capped Bust Quarter Dollar. NGC graded MS-65. B-4. R1. Old holder. A vibrant coin. Well struck with lovely blue and golden toning. This is indeed a lovely, healthy-glowing Gem, whose obverse and reverse being essentially identical in their characteristics and color, beam with frosty, heavenly Gem-quality luster. Precision strike on every device. A marvel of coin preservation, in other words, and diametrically opposed to the lesser "also-rans" parading around in this numerical condition. The Department of Angelic Relations will look kindly on a very substantial bid. Pop 8; 5 finer; 4 in 66; 1 in 67. (PCGS # 5353) .

Die characteristics: The 4 in the date is recut, and close examination reveals a network of slender die cracks about the reverse periphery. From the obverse of 1834 B-3, 4, and 5, combined with a reverse die unique to this variety.
Estimated Value $12,000 - 13,000.
Ex: Superior May 1993 Auction Lot 426.
