Denmark. Ducat, 1645. Fr-39; Hede-33; KM-141. 3.44 grams. 23.38 mm. Christian IV, 1588-1648. Obv. Standing armored ruler holding sword and orb right. Leg: CHRISTIANUS - IIII. D:G.DAN:R. Reverse: Hebrew legend between IUSTUS above and IUDEX below and date at bottom. Lustrous. NGC graded MS-61.

Christian was one of the more important monarchs of the time. His long reign (60 years), enabled him to consolidate his empire. He intervened on the Protestant side during the Thirty Years War, and fought with the Swedish king, Gustavus Adolphus, winning numerous battles. After Gustavus' death in 1632, he was so jealous of the larger Sweden, that the Protestant alliance fell apart. In any case, he produced exceptional coins.
Estimated Value $2,200 - 2,600.

Realized $4,140
