Salzburg. Ducat, 1500. Fr-579; Prob-64. 3.51 grams. 21.46 mm. Leonhard Von Keutschach, 1495-1519. Church arms in quartered shield with date above in arch. Leg: +LEONARD 9 DG* ARCHIEPI* SAL Reverse: St. Rupert standing with miter, crook and saltpot; beneath family coat of arms. Leg: SANCT 9 RV -- DBERT 9 EPS. Boldly struck with traces of luster. NGC graded MS-63.

The archbishopric of Salzburg was one of the leading bishoprics in late medieval times. In fact, during the 16th and 17th centuries, Salzburg was the Catholic bastion of anti-Reformation sentiment. Saint Rudobertus (Rupert), being the patron saint is almost always pictured or mentioned.
