Russia. Alexander I, 1801-25. 1813 AE Medal, 66mm, signed "Invented and Cut by Count Feodor Tolstoy". To Honor Duke Alexander of Wurttemberg from the St. Petersburg Home Guard. Diakov-364.1, original Tolstoy dies. Count Feodor Petrovich Tolstoy, born in 1783 at St. Petersburg, lived 60 years beyond his creation of this medal becoming renowned as an engraver and artist. Forrer says he "certainly stands first among the artists of his country." A few minor rim nicks, otherwise Choice Extremely Fine.
