Lot 1839

1925-S $20 St. Gaudens. PCGS graded MS-63. Nice golden toning. The 1925-S is one of the key dates in the Saint-Gaudens series, and one of the few mintmarked issues from this decade that circulated to any extent. Most specimens that are offered are in Extremely Fine or About Uncirculated condition with, dare we say, submarginal quality. Uncirculated coins are quite elusive. In MS 63, those in the now rate this issue as among the most difficult to obtain. This is a nicely struck example that has warm toned satin-like luster and shows minimal hairlines and a pleasing lack of abrasions for the grade. A pleasing Choice BU specimen, in other words, something to heighten the interest of the connoisseur. Pop 72; 23 finer (PCGS # 9182) .
Estimated Value $18,000 - 20,000.
