Lot 1179

1917-S Liberty Walking Half Dollar. Mint mark on reverse. PCGS graded MS-64. As the relatively thin mintage figure relates, the vast majority of S-mint Walkers delivered in 1917 have the mintmark on the reverse. The total production amounted to some 5.5 million coins, most of which were used in commerce. Mint States survivors, those few that are free of wear and blossoming with full satin luster, are scarce. Most '17-S Reverse Mintmark half dollars have problems with strike, centers tend not to be sharply detailed. Fortunately, there is not a single outwardly noticeable mark on this choice MS64 specimen (PCGS # 6573) .
Estimated Value $2,500 - 2,700.
