Union Volunteer and Cooper Shop Refreshment Saloons. The two "saloons" were opened in Philadelphia to aid Union soldiers, providing free food, drink, and lodging for soldiers headed into active field service, and a separate hospital provided care for the sick and wounded. Five items: an admittance card for either saloon; a 9½" x 12" page with an engraving of the Union Volunteer Refreshment Saloon, naming officers and committee members; a four-sided card with images of the UVR Saloon on one side and the hospital on the other. Accompanied by a card for the "Fifteenth Soiree of the Washington Social Club…Fulton Street…January 30", 1865; and a card for the "First Invitation Ball of the Bunkers. Constitution Engine Co. VII…November 16th, 1864." Cards have light to heavy soiling.
