Lot 928

1860 Indian Head Cent. Pointed bust. PCGS graded MS-64. The 1860 Pointed Bust or "Type of 1859" was virtually unknown until 1987 when Walter Breen's Encyclopedia of U.S and Colonial Coinage listed it as a very rare variety. Although far from rare, it is available enough to become an accepted part of the regular Indian Cent collection. About 1 in 40 examples of 1860 Indian Cents are found with this feature and as such it is always in demand.

The present example is fully struck with great luster. Only a small spot and a tiny contact mark on the reverse keeps it from a higher grade. In fact, at first glance this looks like a gem. Pop 46; 30 finer; 25 in 65; 4 in 66; 1 in 67. (PCGS # 2056) .
Estimated Value $1,300 - 1,500.
Ex:The "Chiro" Collection. Eagle Eye Photo Seal accompanies this lot.

Realized $3,220
