Lot 281

1796 Draped Bust Cent. . S-109, R3+. VG-8 Counterstamped. A couple points sharper but cleaned and retoned glossy chocolate and medium steel brown. The obverse is smooth but there is some minor roughness on the reverse, mostly right of ONE CENT. No verdigris. There is a strong counterstamp of I*DB with raised, relatively crude letters inside an incuse rectangle in the field before the neck. This stamp is not listed in Brunk and its origin is unknown, but it appears quite old. The obverse details are strong while there is some weakness on the reverse, much of which resulted from a bulge caused by the obverse stamp.
Estimated Value $250 - 500.

Realized $403
