1796 Draped Bust Cent. . S-98, R5. VF-20. Sharpness VF25 or sllightly better with too many contact marks for the higher grade. These include a thin nick in the field over the bust tip, a short pinscratch near the rim behind the head, and small rim bruises at D-S and OF. Glossy chocolate brown with frosty lighter brown toning in protected areas and splashes of darker chocolate toning at the neck and back of the head. The planchet is smooth, free of corrosion or verdigris. MDS, Breen die state II. The date is complete although the bottom is starting to flow into the rim below, and the legends are strong. Not perfect but still quite nice, near the lower end of the condition census for this rare variety.
