Lot 2372

1914 $5 Indian. PCGS graded Proof 65. Nice even toning on both sides. Archive records show that 125 Proof half eagles were struck by the Philadelphia Mint in 1914. Even though the auction census for the series proposes that far fewer are known today, we believe that somewhere around fifty pieces are extant in both private collections and community museums. This is a one hundred per cent Gem Proof that has sparkling, granular faceted surfaces. The balanced orange-gold color is most becoming. There are no shiny areas of contact, and the only flaws are so few as to preclude further discussion. Very scarce. Pop 8; 2 in 66. (PCGS # 8545) .
Estimated Value $30,000 - 32,000.

Realized $36,800
