1861 Liberty Seated Dollar. ANACS graded MS-61. Well struck with light purple and golden toning over smooth satin-finish luster. 1861 is among the scarcer Civil War dates (1861-65) when requests for silver dollars were almost nonexistent (in their place, bankers and merchants preferred the more convenient gold dollars). For this reason, survivors are few in all grades. A Mint State example, whenever one does come by, quickly gets snapped up. So do not let a look of surprise come over you when the price realized on this well struck item gets posted! Once bidding ends, we expect those who were outbid may mutter a word to congratulation to the successful buyer, and then shuffle out of the room with heads hanging down.
