Lot 1175

Choice Decorative Utensils for the Opera Lover. U.S.A., c, 1900. Most impressive is the opera glasses, in aluminum(?), with mother-of-pearl trim and finely enameled and hand painted portraits of a pretty lady (signed "St. Marc"), in the Viennese manner. (Aluminum was still an exotic material at this time.) Also, a sumptuous parasol handle in boldly colored agate, with gold or gold-filled trim. And, if you are indecisive about your accoutrements, you can choose from 6 opera glass holders in silver, and mother-of-pearl with gold or gold-filled trim, all with telescoping handles; the pincher ends mostly tortoise shell. Some of these showing patent dates of 1882-1889. Lot of 8 items.
Estimated Value $500 - 1,000.
Irving Goodman, Personal Collection.
