1787 Fugio Cent. Pointed rays, cinquefoils, "STATES UNITED". . Newman 13-X Rarity-1. PCGS graded MS-62 Brown. Steel brown and chocolate with underlying frosty mint luster in protected areas. Most of the planchet is smooth and free of flaws, but there is a shallow fissure from the base of the sundial slanting down through the D in MIND to the I in BUSINESS where it fades away, plus a couple very shallow fissures at the rings on the left side of the reverse. Planchet flaws plague this variety, and a perfect example is extremely rare. Most likely from the Bank of New York Hoard. A keg of mint state FUGIO cents was dispersed by that bank to valued clients for nearly 100 years beginning in 1856, with the remnants donated to the ANS Museum. Nearly all the mint state examples known today of any variety of FUGIO cent came from this hoard (PCGS # 883) .
Estimated Value $1,000 - 1,500.
The Greenhill Collection.

Realized $2,243
