1928, $10 Gold Certificate. . Fr-2400. . KL-1963. PCGS Very Choice New 64PPQ. A boldly original note near gem quality. The original obligation for Gold Certificates reads: This certifies that there have been deposited in the Treasury of The United States of America Ten Dollars in coin payable to the bearer on demand. This certificate is a legal tender in the amount thereof in payment of all debts and dues public and private. Technically, the gold was the "dollars" and the paper note a money substitute. Later, in 1933-34, in an ages old slight-of-hand magician's trick, the government switched the money substitute for the thing itself.
