Lot 2437

1924-S $20 St. Gaudens. NGC graded MS-63. Quite frosty. Appearances can be deceiving. Even though 2.3 million pieces were struck of the 1924-S $20, for many years it was believed to be the rarest issue in the entire series. Its days of glory pales, however, when a number of pieces were found in Europe and imported back to the U.S. Today, the '24-S is still a scarce issue but one that is found without too much difficulty if a collector is dedicated to the task. This is a well struck example that shows lovely, softly frosted mint luster and is well defined throughout. Lightly abraded. Pop 149; 107 finer.
Estimated Value $5,500 - 6,000.
The Greenhill Collection.

Realized $7,763
