Lot 2435

1924-S $20 St. Gaudens. PCGS graded MS-64. Nice original toning. This attractive example is uncommonly free of sizeable bagmarks for the grade. Close attention reveals a few wispy handling marks on both sides, but the luster is unimpeded with swirling warm orange accents on both sides. The colors with the underlying gold foundation are well blended over suitably well struck features. Once considered a key date in the series, the 1924-S was touted with such stars as the 1920-S, 1921, 1927-D and 1933. The availability of pieces in Europe has changed the ranking, but this is every bit a prized possession in choice MS64 condition. Pop 82; 3 finer; 2 in 65; 1 in 67. (PCGS # 9179) .
Estimated Value $13,000 - 14,000.
