Lot 2433

1924-D $20 St. Gaudens. PCGS graded MS-64. A frosty lightly toned coin. In terms of overall rarity, the 1924-D is a median rarity in the series now due to discoveries in European bank hoards, but it is still very elusive in high. The surfaces of this coin are far nicer than average for the issue with only a few stray marks and luster grazes on both sides, the coin has an undeniable charm the elevates it above a lesser specimen, quality rarely seen on this or any other date in the series. The features are willfully struck, there is nothing halfhearted about it; plus the luster is bright and frosted with a distinctive two-toned color scheme consisting of a base of rich reddish-gold in the fields surrounded by warm apricot-gold patina. Pop 123; 4 in 65; 2 in 66. (PCGS # 9178) .
Estimated Value $9,000 - 10,000.
