Lot 1711

1855-C $1 Gold Indian. SEGS graded AU-58. Struck on a normal rough planchet. Our grade is XF-45. This is one of two die pairings for the issue, the other currently unlisted. The 1855-C is typically a poorly produced Charlotte gold dollar from a mintage of just 9,803 pieces. Survivors tend to be in Extremely Fine or About Uncirculated, but are often plagued with things that will drive a collector (and even a grading service) to distraction. Only a handful of Uncirculated examples are believed to be known. The present example lustrous coin, while typical in strike through the centers and portions of the obverse border, has a pleasing overall appearance. An opportunity for the specialized collector of Southern gold.
Estimated Value $6,000 - 6,500.
