Lot 401

1925 Norse Medal. PCGS graded MS-65 Thick. Fully lustrous and frosty, with great detail. A medal, not a coin, but collected right along with the regular commemorative coin series, this and related pieces were issued in connection with the Norse American Centennial in 1925. The proposers wanted a coin, but did not press their case strongly, not realizing that coins could be widely sold throughout the numismatic market, but medals would have less appeal. Accordingly, large quantities remained unsold for years afterward. However, in the 1940s and 1950s James, Inc., a Louisville, Kentucky firm, distributed many of these, including in special holders that had so-called half dollars of other types in them. Year by year they became more popular (PCGS # 9450) .
Estimated Value $150 - 200.

Realized $276
