Lot 3801

1834 $5 Classic Head. Crosslet 4. PCGS graded VF-30. Nice details for the grade. The crosslet 4 variety in the date is much scarcer than the plain 4 of this Classic Head style used from 1834 to 1838. As on the quarter eagle of 1834, the motto E PLURIBUS UNUM was omitted from the new, reduced size half eagle in 1834, to distinguish the old coins which had become worth more than face value. 1834 was America's first experiment in monetary debasement. It would not be the last (PCGS # 8172) .
Estimated Value $1,500 - 1,600.

Realized $2,128
