Hadrian, 117-138 AD. AR Cistophoric Tetradrachm (10.96 g), Uncertain Asian mint, c. 129-132 AD. Rare. Bare head of Hadrian right. Reverse: Robed Dionysius left, with scepter, tippling kantharos to panther at feet; COS III. Metcalf, Cistophori, type 99, fig. 368, but note type 98, fig. 367 - same obverse die, but reverse die with nude god; RIC 485 var.; RSC 323a. Good portrait; some of torso of Dionysius not fully struck up do to undertype. Excellent metal, with considerable residual luster. Choice Very Fine.
