Lot 2998

1933-S Liberty Walking Half Dollar. PCGS graded MS-66. Well struck and mostly white. Pop 70; 7 in 67 as best by PCGS. The surfaces are radiant and each side has a nice veneer of patina that barely touches as it alternates between lighter and darker shades of neutral grayish brown. Here, as always with a carefully preserved 1933-S half dollar, we are struck by the bold, convincing design detail for all areas with not even the slightest amount of flatness in the central design. Curious it is, when the 1923-S to 1929-S issues are always weak to miserably weak in these areas, and followed by almost the same lack of quality control in 1934-S and 1935-S. But the 1933-S stands alone, proud and tall as one of the most sharply made dates from this or any other mint, and is nicely presented here in its PCGS case (PCGS # 6591) .
Estimated Value $3,300 - 3,600.

Realized $3,450
