Lot 1742

1878 Twenty Cents. PCGS graded Proof 66. Wonderful blue and gold toning on both sides. Displaying a uniform mirror brilliance on each side atop which glistens some of the most attractive sky blue to electric blue toning ever seen on the obverse (with a bit of dusky lavender in the center for good measure). The reverse has a central splash of bright blue, almost turquoise, surrounded by gold to amber red. Sheer boldness of strike throughout would be the ideal for any Proof twenty-cent piece, and this handsome 1878 Proof meets the challenge to strike completely; the design left by the rebound of the dies is in an excellent state at the centers as well as the legends and date, including the tiny stars. Pop 13; none finer. (PCGS # 5306) .
Estimated Value $15,000 - 16,000.
