Lot 1673

1797 Draped Bust Half Dime. 13 stars. Sharpness of VF-30. The rarest varity for this year. Cleaned long ago with some marks about the rims. There are four different varieties of 1797 Half Dimes currently known, with three different star counts on the obverse. Valentine-1 with 13 Stars (LM4) is the rarest of four varieties for the year, and it is the only die variety of the design type with 13 stars on the obverse. Both sides have prominent clash marks, and the reverse has the top of A in STATES filled. A pleasing pale golden to russet gray "old silver" specimen with choice surfaces and grand eye appeal for the grade. As always, normal weakness at the centers. Only 44,527 half dimes minted in 1797.
Estimated Value $2,000 - 2,400.
The Victor Kramer Collection.

Realized $3,335
