Naples. 15 Ducati, 1825. Fr-863; KM-C-140. Francesco I, 1825-1830. Bust right. Reverse: Male standing at column. Lustrous. Very Rare. Extremely Fine.

With the coming of the Austrians, Neapolitan liberties were eclipsed. Ferdinand I instituted harsh state trials, which often resulted in execution. The regime of the Medici was reinstitued, and civil liberties curtailed. On his death in 1825, Francis I succeeded and if anything increased the severities of his father's reign. It was during Francis I's reign that the Swiss Guard was established as a protection for the autocracy.
