In a period not so long ago, the government would release all of its currency with no thought for the collecting public. Odd and curious serial number combinations weren't considered; most reached circulation and became worn. Nowadays, however, the Bureau that prints American paper money sets aside all of the low serial number notes for sale to collectors at a premium (or for sneakily lining the pockets of unnamed individuals in the hierarchy). Pretty soon if we don't watch out, they'll set aside the notes with multiple "8" numerals which are lucky numbers for a certain segment of the population of Asian descent!
