Lot 1868

1892-S. NGC graded AU-58. Well struck and untoned. Popular key date. Only 1.2 million Morgan Dollars were struck at the San Francisco Mint in 1892, and many of these immediately were paid out into circulation. The mintage itself makes an unusual tidbit, for every month of the year saw an identical 100,000 coins struck. Nearly all known examples today are well worn. In grades below Extremely Fine, the 1892-S is a plentiful and readily affordable issue. Those coins that grade Extremely Fine or About Uncirculated are much scarcer and far more expensive, with this lovely About Uncirculated 58 example on the cusp of Mint State condition. The coin gains immensely from this situation (PCGS # 7218) .
Estimated Value $7,500 - 8,500.
