1861-O Liberty Seated Half Dollar. NGC graded MS-61. Old holder. Well struck with a hint of light gold toning. The mint in New Orleans was seized by the forces of the Confederacy early in 1861, but production continued for a short while thereafer. But once the full economic tragedy unfolded, the mint closed shop for the duration, and in fact, New Orleans was not allowed to strike coins again until 1879. Pop 9; 96 finer.
