Lot 1358

1907 $20 St. Gaudens. High relief, Roman numerals, wire rim. NGC graded MS-64. We note one tiny mark in the obv. field below the branch. A desirable representative of this important first-year issue, the surfaces do not reveal any sizeable abrasions. The strike is typically bold for the issue, in fact, very bold, with the majestically defined devices that characterize this high relief delivery. The color, although somewhat subdued, is a pleasing honey-gold shade and full of swirling effects from the surface texture seen on these key coins.

One of the highlights of a collectors life is to own a splendid example of this famous coin. For this isn't just any coin, but the high point of American artistry in coinage. The bold high relief design was difficult to fully strike up, and each coin had to be struck several times in order to fill the upper recesses of the dies.
Estimated Value $23,000 - 26,000.

Realized $29,038
