Lot 855

1814 $5 Capped Head. 4 over 3. NGC graded MS-64. All 1814 half eagles are overdates, with the 4 over 3. There is lots of interesting die clashing on this choice specimen. As an example, the horizontal lines of the reverse shield appear on the obverse, beginning before and under Liberty's ear and extending to the back of the cap. It is well struck with original surfaces, almost full luster and pretty peripheral tone in a honey gold color. Breen-6468, "Rarer as a date than 1813 or 1818. Pop 9 with none higher.
Estimated Value $35,000 - 40,000.

Realized $43,700
